The mountain stays
an altar in the east
where first light breaks,
an "ahu" of the gods, or god,
as mind and time defend,
where lowly earth ascends eternal sky
and man may share the crumbs of sacrificial feast.
Who knows where in the swirling mists of breaching peaks
ethereal wings will lift the loosened soul...

My mountain now is framed in glass so thin
it lets the heat or cold of these late seasons in.
The many mansions of another day
become a fast receding memory.
My mountain only feeds my fretting soul,
exalts the final feast.
The mountain stays.
